Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and experience success and happiness, regardless of any limitations!

And this stands true for the differently-abled children too.

Hospital’s Department of Developmental Paediatrics provides special and supportive care for special children, so that these children have a secure childhood leading to a safe adulthood.

Isha Multispeciality Hospital’s unique feature of a special ‘Development Centre’ boasts of multi-disciplinary approach to therapy for differently abled-children who suffer from:

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Mental Retardation
  • Global Developmental Delay
  • Gait & other muscular problems
  • Behavioural Problems
  • Learning Disabilities including Scholastic Backwardness
  • Autism
  • ADHD – Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Genetic Syndromes

Children with Celebral Palsy and those with gait and other muscular problems. They need physiotherapy and occupational therapy on a regular basis to improve their gross and fine motor functions, balance and coordination.

Those with autism need a systematic,child-oriented therapy program. They are offered occupational, sensory integration, speech and language therapies by trained therapists to overcome their varied problems of delayed speech, poor communication, hyperactivity, poor eye contact and behavioural issues.

Those infants and children with global development delay (including those with syndromes) need early intervention in the form of physiotherapy, occupational therapies; they also need cognitive stimulation by a trained clinical psychologist who offers them various stimulation programs including Play therapy. Their speech & language delay is tackled by the therapist who offers training in development of their language and speech via a well-focused program.

Children with learning disabilities & scholastic backwardness are first assessed for their particular problems in reading, writing, maths etc. A special educator chalks out programmes for their benefit, so that school education becomes easy.

We are a team of professionals who have come together to offer our services to such children so that these children have a ‘Secure childhood leading to a safe adulthood.’ We provide a multi – disciplinary approach towards the therapy of such children.

Tests are offered for detecting deafness – OAE and diagnosing the level of deafness – BERA. OAE is offered to all NICU graduates. ROP screening is offered to all NICU graduates by an expert paediatric ophthalmologist. Early intervention programs are offered to all NICU graduates on a regular follow up scheduled basis.

Early Intervention

Early intervention refers to systematic and planned effort to promote development through a series of interventions aimed at modifying the interaction between children and their immediate environment, initiated during the initial years of life.

It requires multidisciplinary services which are provided to these children and is aimed at detection of delays, minimization of potential delays, remediation of existing problems to prevent further deterioration, in addition to providing counselling and support to the child and the family. The Intervention process begins with assessment of the child’s functional performance, strength & limitations.

Neuronal Plasticity

Compensatory mechanisms of the brain exist at all levels. This neuronal plasticity is encouraged by stimulation & early intervention. Therapy focuses on increasing function by building on the individual’s strengths while addressing the impairments. A combined approach is incorporated to cater to the physical, mental, perceptual, behavioural & psychosocial needs of the child with disability.
